Memorial Day weekend 2006, time for the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee.
The world's premier trad jazz festival, and I've been to all of them.
This year the festival
has scaled back some, eliminating the venues at Cal Expo and
and a couple of hotels. You can say that the festival has
returned to its roots, reestablishing a couple of venues
in West Sacramento, where the festival originated 33 years ago.
Below you'll find links to several festival photo galleries.
Come enjoy some sights from the kick-off parade,
various street scenes, and a nightly jam session.
Check out some shots from the bands in performance,
or take a stroll along the River Walk.
And take a break from the music with a tour of the
California Military Museum.

The River City
|
|
Sacramento, the River City. Established at the confluence of
the Sacramento and American Rivers. Many beautiful scenes of
picturesque Old Town, historic operating locomotives, pleasurable
paddle boats, river walks, etc.
|
People on the Streets
|
|
There's a lot happening on the streets of Old Sacramento
over the Memorial Day weekend. Besides the festival goers
grabbing a bite to eat between sets, you'll find school
field trips, street artists & vendors, free outdoors
concerts, peace officers, etc. Come along as we take
a stroll around.

Kick-Off Parade
|
|
As the song goes, "I Love a Parade". The festival kicks off
with a preview of the jazz bands, passing by against the
backdrop of Old Town.
|
California Military Museum
|
|
This year our festival badge included free admission
to the California Military Museum.
Located on 2nd St. in Old Sac., the museum contains
military items and personal memorabilia covering 3 floors.
The Exhibits reflect California's rich militia and U.S. Military
history from pre-statehood to contemporary times.

Jubilee Venues
|
|
The atmosphere is an important part of the festival experience.
Jazz can be heard under large tents, in hotel meeting halls, or in
intimate cabaret settings.
Check out some of the Jubilee's venues along with candid shots
of both the festival goers and musicians.

Round Table Jam Session
|
|
I brought my axe and played a few tunes in one of the
jam sessions at Round Table Pizza in Old Town.
No pictures of yours truly, but here you'll
find some of the other musicians that participated.
